Robot Goal Federation

Robot Sports

The Robot Goal Federation® is a governing and sanctioning authority that protects the standards under which robot sport can grow.

The Robot Goal League (RGL) is a 32-team league governed and sanctioned by the Robot Goal Federation. It plays Robot Goal, a nine-on-nine robot football sport.

32 city-based franchises are divided equally between the Northern Robotics Conference and the Southern Robotics Conference. Each conference contains four divisions of four franchises. Under the league blueprint, each franchise plays 16 regular-season games, one per week.

Sixteen teams—eight from each conference—advance to the postseason: four division winners and four wild-card teams from each conference. The Northern and Southern Robotics Conference champions meet in the RGF Grand Final, the RoboBowl. The first major objective is to build and publicly demonstrate a credible Robot Goal prototype.

A Glimpse Into RGL Games

Robot Goal is a nine-on-nine robot football sport played on an indoor field. Each team uses three types of robots: LowBots, which operate on the ground; MidBots, which are humanoid; and HighBots, which operate in the air. Human coaches call the plays, and automated sensors handle most officiating. A game has four 15-minute quarters, combining team strategy with the different capabilities of each robot type.  The field is 85 feet wide, with 50 yards between the goal lines and an 8-yard end zone at each end, which is the same as an arena football field setup.

Read the Book

The blueprint for robot sports has been written and is presented in The Robot Goal Federation: A Blueprint for a New Era of Sports Entertainment. David D’Arcangelo introduces the RGF as the governing and sanctioning body for all robot sports, the 32-team RGL as its league for Robot Goal, and Robot Goal as a nine-on-nine robot football sport featuring LowBots, MidBots, and HighBots.

The book explores the game’s rules, safety framework, human coaching, and fan experience—and the new form of robot entertainment they create.

Our organization stands at the forefront of this transformation: the Robot Goal Federation (RGF).

As one of the pioneer leagues in robot sports, it holds the competitive advantage of having a Trademark from the United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO).

By the year 2030 robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be developed to the point where robots will be able to play most of the North American professional sports.  Robot Goal brings robotics, artificial intelligence, coaching strategy, and sports entertainment together in a new nine-on-nine competition. The Robot Goal Federation is establishing the sport’s governing structure, while the Robot Goal League provides the 32-team league blueprint. The first major objective is a public demonstration of a working Robot Goal prototype.

Robots will play Football, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Soccer, and golf, as well, or even better than, human athletes.

AI technology will allow these machines to showcase their skills on the field in ways that people never thought possible.  With the rapid advancement of technology, especially in robotics and AI, robots can be programmed to play certain sports or games at an increasingly sophisticated level.

As technological advancements shape our world, a new frontier of athleticism emerges. We're talking about robot sports—a domain where human creativity and engineering excellence combine to redefine the way we perceive competitive sports.

The appeal of robot sports lies in their limitless possibilities. These games aren't constrained by the biological limitations of humans. With robots, we witness maneuvers, strategies, and plays that would be impossible in traditional sports. This unique perspective is reshaping the way enthusiasts, engineers, and audiences perceive sports.
